Sunday 23rd – Misfits vs Tigers & Beavers

Misfits 9-5 Tigers

The sun shone as the Misfits took to the diamond in the first of their two games of the day against their old adversary the Tigers, who had pipped The Misfits at the end of last season in the play-off Final 8-5.

The game didn’t disappoint, with both teams keeping it tight after the first inning with the scores 1-1. By the end of the 3rd inning the Tigers had got their noses in front leading 5-2, and it looked like history was going to repeat itself. However, 5 runs in the fourth by the Misfits followed by 3 inning shutouts against the Tigers and a further 2 runs in the sixth and seventh meant the game had moved to 9-5 in Misfits favour. The Tigers required 4 to tie the game at the bottom of the 7th.

Only 1 additional run was added to the score meaning the result was a 9-6 win to The Misfits with game MVPs going to:

Male – Nigel Peters (Misfits)

Misfits 14-13 Beavers

Game Two vs the Beavers was an even a closer game, with both teams pushing every ounce of grit and determination to hold on to the win. After the first innings with the scores 5-3 to the Misfits, the result looked to be going in one direction but some great defensive plays and aggressive batting saw the Beavers move ahead 9-6 by the end of the fourth, and with the fifth a shut out for both teams time was running out, but the Misfits managed to tie up the game in the sixth with 3 runs to make it 9-9.

In to the final innings and the Beavers came out aggressive, scoring 4 massive runs to surely push the game out of reach and secure a great victory. Bottom of the seventh and whilst 1 run was scored to reduce the deficit, two quick outs were followed …bottom of the final inning ….2 outs….3 runs to tie and 4 to win for the Misfits.

To the rescue – Chaz – Ricky – Beks – Matt. In fact, the following 9 batters from lead off down the order came to the plate to secure the win 14-13  making it 4 wins from 4 for the season so far…..
