Opening Night

After a slight delay to the start of the season due to ground conditions at West Park, it all started last night with two close games. Redbacks 18 – 20 Beavers, and Tigers 12 – 13 Pyromaniacs.

In Bestwood The Tigers came back from 6-1 and then 10-6 down against Pyromaniacs to tie it 11-11 going into the 7th.

Maniacs scored 2 runs but Tigers managed to get 1 back in reply and have the tying run at 1st but a great relay from the outfield led to a tag out at 3 and the Maniacs held on.

Massive thanks to Ian Tomlin for organising the ground at short notice, Matthew Coleman for umpiring, Shane Sharp for ringing for Tigers and both teams for a fantastic game.

Meanwhile in Chilwell the Beavers took an early lead on the Rebacks scoring 7 to the Redbacks 4 in the inning. After that the Redbacks managed to keep the Beavers from getting any high scores again, and with a couple of shut out innings and steady batting got it tied to 16-16 going in to the seventh inning.

Rebacks batted first and managed to get an extra 2 runs scored before the third out, but Beavers quickly tied it up again and then a solid triple scored 2 RBIs, ending the game at 20-18.

It was great to get the season going again, and what better way than with 2 close games on the hottest day of the year!
